Jess Holland is an amateur photographer and illustrator from the UK who is currently living in Brisbane on exchange. "View Finder" brings together photography from the UK and Australia, as well as illustrations made for an animated skate series, with a common theme being the capture of unremarkable public places and the endearing ways that we use them.
Along with her pink Konica camera, Jess has spent the past few years documenting the south-western UK from both the perspective of a local and a tourist, observing how leisure, daily life, and longstanding traditions overlap each other. Now she brings this neither-here-nor-there viewpoint to Brisbane as both a resident and a visitor, with this solo exhibition highlighting and comparing photos from both countries. Jess has also been a guest artist for the animated skate series Pen Pals, featuring some of the biggest names in skateboarding; a selection of illustrated scenes will be recreated for the exhibition
